    The tories

Trounced all over the country, even in the West Midlands where the candidate was hugely personally popular and spent most of the campaign trying to pretend he wasn’t an actual Tory. Off you fuck. General election please. Your time is up.

The House of Commons is having a meltdown.

The Speaker, who’s usually such a spineless wet blanket, has managed to annoy both the Tories and the SNP at the same time. Which is quite some achievement. And now the Tories have taken their ball home and won’t play anymore. It’s marvellous entertainment. If you like that sort of thing. Which...

South Africa v India second test.

South Africa first innings 55 all out. India first innings 153 all out. South Africa second innings 62-3. Close on day one. India went from 153-4 to 153 all out. Crazy day, couldn’t take your eyes off it.

    Black Friday.

Anyone ever heard it referred to as “black eye Friday”? https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/dec/24/photo-of-swansea-police-arresting-drunk-likened-to-renaissance-art

Win or bust and hope Armenia can do us a favour in Zagreb. Cymru am byth.

    The one day cup final

Superb game of cricket buried in med-September in Nottingham. Hampshire need 25 off 18 to beat Leicestershire with three wickets left. Kept me royally entertained all day this has, along with the racing.

    The “small boats”

As soon as everyone realises that this government has no interest in stopping boats crossing the channel with asylum seekers on board the more sense it will make to them. It’s so transparent it’s ridiculous. Yet it works. People still fall for it.

    Women’s World Cup 2023

Just kicked off, NZ v Norway on BBC1. Most games in the night or morning our time. Should be a good tournament. Note for anyone with no interest in women’s football, feel free to bypass this thread.

    Boris Johnson

Resigns as an MP after the Commons privileges committee discovers that he’s a liar. Imagine that. I’d like to say it was fun while it lasted but it was horrendous But it ended in exactly the way everyone with half a brain knew it would. It’s just a crying shame he took the country down the...

The summer of test cricket - Ashes 2023

Started this morning. Ireland 64/3. Five ashes tests to come plus the WTC final between India and Australia. Loves it I do. Football schmootball.

    Swansea March for independence

Good turnout by the looks. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cyre3e3ze3ko

    The Conference play off final

Goes to penalties, 2-2 aet. How unspeakably cruel it would be for Notts County not to go up after the season they had. But also quite funny.

    Cocaine Bear.

It’s a film. It’s exactly what the title suggests. A bear gets mangled on cocaine and goes on a rampage. It’s also all kinds of brilliant in an “it’s terrible but it knows it’s terrible” way. Some brilliantly funny set pieces. Well worth 95 minutes of your precious time. Get it watched.

    Penguin and Roald Dahl

A story in four chapters. 1. Publisher announces revisions to original text of Dahl books to remove outdated language. 2. Pee Cee Gone Mad outcry ensues. “This is outrageous” cry the usual suspects. You know who they are. 3. Publisher announces it’ll publish “classic” unaltered versions...

    New Zealand v England

Another superb win for Ben Stokes’s England team which is single handedly reviving Test cricket. Oh and the Aussies just got battered in India. Again. Lovely stuff.

    Fawlty Towers reboot

It’s going to be terrible isn’t it?

    The Last of Us

I knew nothing about this going into the series, I’d no idea about the video game. The last one of those things I played was probably Frogger. This is a superb series though. Episode three is one if the best bits of telly I’ve watched for years. Get it watched. Sky Atlantic.

    Attempted coup in Brazil

Strikingly similar scenes to the Trump orchestrated attempted terrorist coup in the USA a couple of years ago. Similar far right types involved as well. They’re not great losers...

    Early Doors, BBC4 10.55pm tonight

One of my favourite sitcoms of all time gets its first BBC repeat in about 15 years tonight. Definitely one of the most underrated shows of the last 50 years, it’s a work of art. Criminal that it only got two series. Get it watched. You know it makes sense.
