Watford watching Piroe situation

The Swans have long since signposted this summer that they need to sell players before they buy and that has led to several clubs watching the position closely with our saleable assets.

Flynn Downes we know went early to West Ham but even that was not enough to keep the Swans active in the transfer market as Russell Martin revealed at the weekend and now it is being suggested that at least two Championship clubs are weighing up the possibility of a move for last season’s leading scorer in Joel Piroe.

Watford are said to be one of them with the Hornets expected to sell Ismalia Sarr at some stage in the next few days to Aston Villa although reports surfaced on Monday evening that the move could be off.ย  However, it is still widely speculated that they are in the market for a striker and the Swans stance – and public statements – that they need to move players on has alerted at least them to the possibility of a good value deal for themselves.

The Swans have been bracing themselves all summer for someone to make a move for Piroe who starred in his first season in the Championship last time around.ย  ย Things have not turned as well this season with the striker currently goalless in his six appearances.

The worry now is that with our stance of needing to sell to buy and clearly needing to strengthen the squad is that a deal could end up being done on the cheap.ย  ย This will not be a fact lost on any club interested in a move for the striker and certainly a downside to our open stance this summer on where we stand in terms of transfers into the club.

Watford were of course relegated from the Premier League last time around and will be eyeing up another early return and may well see Piroe as the man who can help them onto that goal particularly when you consider his tally last season in a side that was largely always in the bottom half of the table.

It is suggested that they are not alone with considering a move for Piroe who will certainly have more than his fair share of admirers at this level.

As fans I guess we have always largely expected to see him leave this summer but to do so late on in the window could be a blow and we would only hope that Russell Martin and his scouting team has the right players lined up in the case of that eventuality.

Expect to see much more speculation on Piroe in the next week or so until the window closes.
