Calderwood to join Swansea coaching staff

Former Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur and Scotland defender Colin Calderwood is set to join the coaching staff at Swansea City and leave his job as assistant manager at Northampton Town.

Calderwood watched the cobblers depart the play offs yesterday evening with a 3-1 defeat to Mansfield Town on aggregate less than two weeks after they missed out on automatic promotion thanks to a dramatic 7-0 win for Bristol Rovers on the last day of the season.

Calderwood was assistant manager to Chris Hughton at Norwich at a time when Russell Martin was at Carrow Road and himself has had managerial spells at Northampton, Cambridge, Nottingham Forest and Hibernian.ย  ย He re joined Northampton last year after a spell as assistant at Blackpool.

Swansea have had a vacancy in their coaching set-up since assistant head coach Luke Williams’ exit in February.

Matt Gill stepped up from his role as technical development coach to serve as Martin’s number two until the end of the season and he will now fill that position on a permanent basis, with Calderwood arriving as a coach.

Been watching the Swans since the very late 1970s and running the Planet Swans website (in all its current and previous guises since the summer of 2001 As it stood JackArmy.net was right at the forefront of some of the activity against Tony Petty back in 2001, breaking many of the stories of the day as fans stood against the actions where the local media failed. Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.
