Grimes – West Brom will see the best version of ourselves

Swansea captain Matt Grimes has said that the week’s training the squad has had will allow Monday night to showcase the best version of the Swans as the side go in search of a first league win on the road in seven attempts.

The Swans have had a week to stop and reflect on the capitulation last weekend at Sheffield United and Grimes said that a full week’s training for the first time in a while has given the squad time to refocus and remember how they go about their business.

Grimes pointed at the lack of intensity in last weekend’s 4-0 defeat and admits that when they are bad they can be really bad as was seen in plentiful supply last weekend.

โ€œLast week was tough,” said the Swans skipper.

“We are under no illusion that we were going to have games like that this year.ย  We were poor there was no doubt about it .ย  We know what we want to do and how to do it but when we were lacking intensity it undermined us.ย  When we are good we are absolutely incredible but when we were bad we were really bad.

โ€œThe way we play is so demanding on every single player being bang on it.ย  If one or two arenโ€™t there then the whole system fails.ย  We need to deliver on the pitch and the Stoke and Sheffield United games we were nowhere near it.

โ€œWe have finally been able to train properly as a group for the first time since ย Preston.ย ย  Its been good to get time on the training pitch to get some reminders on how we want to play.ย ย  Sometimes t is easy to let tiredness or inconsistency kick in.ย  Its been a good week of hard training and looking forward to Monday.

โ€œMonday is all about us and we need to get over our rough patch and our good weekโ€™s training will allow us to be the best version of ourselvesโ€
