More Swans links to Ipswich Town’s former MK Dons man

The Swans are again being linked with a move for one of Russell Martin’s former players Scott Fraser, now of Ipswich Town.

Like the Matt O’Riley speculation, the name doesn’t seem to be going away with suggestions a move could be made for the player before next Monday night.

The 26 year old attacking midfielder joined The Tractor Boys in July 2021 and was linked with a move to SA1 last December by the Daily Record – see here.

He moved to Portman Road from MK Dons after an impressive 14 goals in 50 appearances, earning the club’s Player of the Year award.

It hasn’t been as plain sailing in East Anglia; the Scotsman playing 15 times in League One this season, scoring only once and earning two assists in a struggle to replicate his form at MK Dons and, particularly, under Martin.

He is yet to play under new Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna – the former Manchester United assistant – mainly through injury, but is understood to be close to returning to the first team picture.

His manager said ahead of the weekend’s game against Accrington Stanley (who are they?): “Scott Fraser had a little issue in training before last week, so he’s not available for this game but hopefully won’t be too far away.

“He’s got a little knock on the inside of his knee, hopefully nothing too serious, we hope that he’ll join the training group over the next couple of days.

“He hasn’t been training with us this week. Hopefully nothing any longer term and we’ll have him back soon.”

With deadline day closing in a week, the Swans are still chasing a number of targets. Links persist with another of Martin’s former charges Harry Darling, whilst a left back and a forward minded midfielder are also thought to be wanted; more could be needed depending on departures.

One would think a move for Fraser would again depend on funds coming in, but Martin did admit today that the club are ready to make some further moves in the market. Darling is likely to be out of the club’s price range, although a fee for Fraser shouldn’t be anywhere near the numbers being bandied around for either of the two players we’ve been linked with at the Dons.
