“Swansea are vulnerable” – Reading boss eyes up a win in South Wales

Reading may arrive in South Wales today just one place above the relegation zone but they are not arriving with manager Veljko Paunović eyeing up a win that could increase the gap between them and the bottom 3.

Reading were deducted 6 points earlier this month by the EFL who determined the Royals lost £57.8m between 2017 and 2021 – the EFL’s limit for that period is £39m.

A further six-point deduction is suspended until the end of next season, provided they comply with a business plan which includes player spending.

That 6 point deduction has currently cost them three places in the current table and that is something they will be looking to reverse when they arrive at the Swansea.com stadium later on today.

A draw and a defeat since that points penalty has done nothing to lift the mood at the Select Car Leasing Stadium but Paunović hopes to turn that around this afternoon.

“As we don’t have a midweek game coming up, we have to see this as a fantastic opportunity to bring back the three points and build a new momentum,” he told the Reading official site.

“It doesn’t help us to look at the table – we have to narrow our focus only on the games and on getting points until we’re in a better position in the table.

“Swansea are a team with a new coach and style this year, and they are building their shape. They haven’t been very consistent, but they are a good team and they have experienced players. Like every team in this league, they are good, but they are also vulnerable.”
