The Swans managerial search is finally over after the club confirmed the appointment of Russell Martin as Head Coach and he has officially signed the three year contract that was agreed in principle on Friday evening.

Martin joins from MK Dons and will take charge of the Swans training session tomorrow ahead of his Championship debut with the club on Saturday at Blackburn.

โ€œWe are delighted with the appointment of Russell as our new head coach,โ€ said Swansea City CEO Julian Winter told the official site.

โ€œHe very much fits the profile of a young and hungry coach who wants to succeed, and he is more than ready for the opportunity.

โ€œWhen it became clear we would be looking for a new head coach, at the forefront of our thoughts was finding a candidate who was ambitious, driven and with a clear vision of how he wants the team to play.

โ€œAfter earning plaudits with Milton Keynes Dons for the attractive, attacking style that he implemented, we quickly realised Russell would be the right person to take us forward.

โ€œWe were also seeking someone with a passion for working with and developing young players. Russell ticks all those boxes.”

The appointment ends two weeks of speculation – some of it very wild and desperate – which saw John Eustace and Jody Morris also in the frame but ultimately it was Russell Martin that was confirmed as the man in charge and we, of course, wish him all the very best for his tenure at Swansea City.

Martin will be joined in SA1 by coaches Luke Williams, Matt Gill and Dean Thornton, while Alan Tate will continue in his capacity as first-team coach.

  1. Absolutely delighted with the appointment of Russell Martin and his team. Weโ€™ve been crying out for a return to the Swansea Way. Russellโ€™s process-based thinking will take time to implement., and I just hope ALL Swans supporters will be patient and trust the process.
I donโ€™t think we can realistically expect a play-off finish this time around, and I think we will experience more than a few adverse results over the course of the process.
Now we need to look at the squad with realistic expectations. This will, of course, be a priority for Russell and his staff.
It will take time, weโ€™ll face setbacks, but itโ€™s a journey Iโ€™m very much looking forward to.
Trust the process and enjoy the journey.

Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.
