Byers to Sheffield Wednesday – is Bannan part of the deal?

Many news outlets yesterday were reporting that George Byers was on the verge of completing a deal to join Sheffield Wednesday which promoted many Owls fans to believe that Bannan was part of the deal.

As revealed here, the Swans were looking seriously at a move for Bannan two weeks ago (full story here) but things have gone very quiet on that front but that would have been expected given the managerial change that came to light just two days later.

Owls boss Darren Moore issued a “he’s going nowhere” statement in reaction to the speculation but that did not stop further speculation yesterday when the news broke about Byers move.

It is difficult at the moment to know where the Swans stand on transfers.ย  With no manager in place then transfers are likely to be effectively on hold although targets will clearly be established and likely be part of discussions with the new man.ย  However, until that new man is signed up and part of the club will we need to wait and see transfers in and it has been suggested that the same will go for Byers departure in that nothing will complete until our new man arrives.

Bannan is being seen as a potential direct replacement for Matt Grimes who is still expected to leave this summer and it could be that if he arrives he is given the captain’s armband as well as a key spot in our midfield.
