Swans to battle Stoke City, Hull City and Celtic for Northern Ireland midfielder

The Swans appear to be lining up potential replacements for Matt Grimes given the news that we are being linked with a potential ยฃ1m purchase of St Johnstone’s Northern Ireland midfielder Ali McCann.

McCann was a key part of the St Johnstone team that won both the Scottish Cup and League Cup last time around and is attracting plenty of interest south of the border with the same report suggesting that both Stoke and Hull are also keen to make a move for him.

Jordan Rushworth from Football League World said “McCann has had a strong season with St Johnstone and he played a key role in helping them earn domestic success with his 43 appearances in all competitions.

“He is therefore used to winning and being part of a side that is competing for trophies and that is something that could be translated well into the Swansโ€™ hopes of earning promotion next term.”

Grimes has been linked with a move away from the Liberty next season with several Premier League sides supposedly keen on picking up the Swans captain potentially for a fee in the region of ยฃ10m which would open a transfer kitty for the Swans and possibly lead to the signings not just of McCann but Thomas Henry as well.

St Johnstone Charmain Steve Brown said “There’s been interest – Ali in particular, a Northern Ireland international. If the right offer comes along and a player wants to leave, which is another thing you have to take into consideration, then we will sell, but it will be at a price we are happy with.”

We should keep a close eye on developments here as this does seem to be a clear indication that Grimes could well be on his way this summer and that the Swans are keen to line up replacements for that scenario as soon as possible.
