Crystal Palace move closer to Cooper appointment?

Yesterday was an interesting day in the managerial merry go round that started with news that West Brom were closing in on David Wagner and ended with suggestions that Crystal Palace were making an offer to Steve Cooper.

In between the stories Palace pulled out of discussions with Nuno Espirito Santo who was their number one choice supposedly because his list of demands was too much for them and they turned their attention back to Cooper.

A tweet late yesterday afternoon suggested that the deal was close to being completed although it was quickly dismissed by fans on the social media platform

With Nuno now out of the running, Cooper does though seem to be back in pole position to succeed Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park although some Palace sites were also suggesting that Frank Lampard was coming back into the running despite reports saying he was ruled out some time ago.

This saga continues to run and the potential for Cooper still seems to underwhelm most Palace fans but it is starting to look increasingly likely although how he may feel at being second choice will be interesting to watch.

We will never know what caused the talks to fully breakdown between Palace and their first choice but it is clear that demands outweighed what Palace have to offer which either means that Nuno is pricing himself out of the market or Palace have a smaller budget and hence why Cooper (and Ismael) are the ones now fully on their radar.

For the Swans that will leave us in the search of a manager which will already involve a shortlist.ย  One of the (small) benefits of this dragging on will be that Julian Winter will have been looking at this already and you can expect us to be much swifter than Palace if/when Cooper moves on.

Let’s see what today brings
