CHAMPIONES! – Swansea City Ladies secure league and cup double

Our congratulations go this afternoon to the Swansea City Ladies team who secured a league and cup double thanks to a 0-0 draw against Abergavenny that gave them the point they needed to pip Cardiff Met to the league title.

The win came just a few days after they won the cup with a 4-1 win over Cardiff City and completes a superb season for Colin Staples’ side who had to sit on the sidelines and watch for months on end as the pandemic bought a temporary halt to the season.

The Swans were even able to afford the luxury of a missed penalty from Emma Beynon in the second half and could consider themselves unlucky on more than one occasion as they looked to secure a win as well as the title.

The result though ensured an unbeaten league campaign and with just one goal conceded in our 16 encounters a fantastic achievement for the side who rightly are holding the crown as the finest team in Wales.

Swansea City defender Shaunna Jenkins told Clwb Pel-Droed:

โ€œObviously, itโ€™s been a very tough season for everyone with COVID. We had a big break around Christmas time and with fixtures changing, itโ€™s been hard.

โ€œIn the past three weeks, weโ€™ve had six games, but we dug deep as a team and got through it together.

โ€œWe thoroughly deserved the league. Everyone knows how good we are as a team. We showed that last season and showed it again this year.โ€
