Devastating blow for Routs – let’s win it for Wayne

Wayne Routledge has been dealt a devastating blow with the news that the injury he suffered against Barnsley at the weekend was indeed an ACL injury which will rule him out for the rest of this year and potentially even bring down the curtain on his career.

Routledge was already uncertain of a future with the Swans due to being out of contract this summer but it now seems that the news will bring to an end a 10 year playing association with the club but also potentially force an end to his playing career at the same time.

It was clear the moment he went down and remained motionless that this was more than just a slight niggle and the sight of him leaving the Liberty on a stretcher was the big downside of a night of celebrations for the club.ย  A night of celebrations that are now tinged with sadness and now we look to the rest of the team to secure the promotion that Wayne would want for the club.

It is one of the saddest endings you could ever get from a player who has always represented the Swans with pride and was part of the greatest era in the club’s history – everyone here at Planet Swans will wish Wayne a speedy recovery and there could well be a further role for him at the club yet.
