As the season approached its finale it just a few weeks time, the transfer rumours will continue to increase and today it is a link between the Swans and Morecambe winger Carlos Mendes Gomes.
It seems a bit of a pointless link if I am being honest given our tendency to not bother with wingers and most of the wingers under Cooper’s regime have departed quicker than they can run down the touchline. That said though the link is a link but it is one of those links that also sees Luton, Barnsley, Hull, Peterborough and Sunderland supposedly interested which does usually accompany an article thrown together with the help of an agent to drive up interest for his own player.
22 year old Gomes has been a key player for Morecambe this season and is anticipated to make a move this summer although Morecambe’s lofty spot in League Two at the moment could lead to their promotion and increase their chances of holding onto the player.
He has scored 15 goals in all competitions so far in this campaign for Morecambe and was born in Senegal but moved to Spain as a youngster before spells in the academies at Getafe and Atletico Madrid.
I can see Gomes being the kind of a player who will attract Championship interest and in many ways meets the critieria of the kind of player we could look like. Almost in every criteria other than position.
Gomes attributes much of his form this season to Shrimpers boss Derek Adams of whom he says “He has taken my game to the next level – mentality-wise and also my technical ability. He’s given me the confidence to go onto the pitch, express myself and just be me,” says Mendes Gomes.
“He’s added more directness to my game. My relationship with him is great, when the manager speaks highly in interviews and one-to-one, it’s really pleasing to hear.”
I wouldn’t file it away under total rubbish but certainly put it into the sceptical pile!
