Jones – I’m really proud of the performance

Nathan Jones thought his side were more than deserving of at least a point this afternoon after the Swans gained an important win in our promotion push thanks to a 3rd minute strike from Hourihane.

However, from that point of the game it was a simple case that Luton were the better side although, for all their dominance, there was not much that they did to worry Freddie Woodman in the Swansea goal who kept his 18th clean sheet of the campaign in the process.

Jones also reflected on what he believed was a certain penalty that wasn’t given and it certainly seems at the moment that it isn’t a Swansea City game if we don’t have some discussion about a penalty incident after the game.

The defeat means that Luton have lost three of their last six games at home and whilst relegation is not a concern for them this season, Jones will be aware that his side need to improve on that record to just add some final comfort between them and the bottom three come the end of the season.

โ€œThe reason we have ended up with nothing is two reasons. One, some people donโ€™t make the right decisions and then we have missed chances that we should be scoring, that they wouldnโ€™t be missing, neither would your Norwichโ€™s and Brentfordโ€™s โ€“ people like that,” said Jones.

โ€œThat is the learning curve for us because we have had more of the play, more crosses, more possession, more shots, more entries into their final third and Iโ€™m really proud of the performance.

โ€œTo take Swansea on, who are second in the league, with aspirations of being a Premier League side. Got no qualms about the performance, they are a good side, but weโ€™ve been as dominant as we could have been against a good side and Iโ€™m really pleased with that.

โ€œIt is just so hurtful that we havenโ€™t picked up something from the game, and there are a number of factors for that.โ€

The gaffer was particularly displeased with the decision not to award a penalty for the foul on Elijah Adebayo, saying: โ€œThere is no potential, he has chested it away from him, he has wiped him out after the ball had gone, it is a clear penalty. First one is a little bit more open to interpretation, he has moved his hand towards the ball which is a penalty in the letter of the law.โ€
