Classy Cooper on the moral high ground

Steve Cooper was not going to get drawn into a war of words with opposition manager Neil Warnock last night as he refused to get drawn into a response to Warnock’s comments on Sky that his (Cooper’s) father must be calling on favours to get the decisions the Swans are.

Warnock was reacting after the late decision to award the Swans a penalty that gave us three vital promotion points in a pretty dull encounter at the Liberty but ultimately one that had the result that the Swans were desiring.

Cooper’s father is Keith Cooper, a former top flight referee and Warnock jokingly made his claim in the middle of a very long rant about the performance of the officials which he felt cost his team what they deserved.

“I am not getting involved in personal tittle-tattle,” said Swans boss Cooper after the 2-1 win for the Swans.

“We are a classy club and I am classy person.ย  I’d be so disappointed if our lads were making challenges like that at pivotal times in the game.

“I wouldn’t say we had the rub of the green. We’re working so hard. I wish I could have made the changes they made today with the players they were bringing on and the resources that have gone into that, a day’s extra rest and making all of them changes.

“Rub of the green? That’s just pure hard work, spirit and pride to play for the football club.”
