Strachan: We Deserved Better

It took a freak goal to deny Strachan seeing Swansea City take all three points in a 1-1 stalemate at the Riverside yesterday but despite that Strachan thought his side had done enough to take all three points.

He told the Boro official website

“Considering what’s happened they did well today,” he said. “The experienced players have put in a fantastic effort, we keep giving goals away but we are making chances. We only had 11 experienced players so we had to work hard on Thursday and Friday to get a system going.

“I think that’s the first time we’ve come from behind at home to get something, so you can find positives and you can find negatives.”

“Swansea had lots of the ball but if you look at the chances, it’s no contest

“That’s been our story, in between the two boxes not too bad but it’s in the two 18-yard boxes that games are decided. We need to take chances when they come along.

“Again, I think that’s their first shot on target they had and they scored. It seems when teams do get a shot on target it’s a goal. In terms of chances and pressure I thought we did very well but at this moment in time we’re not taking chances.

“I think we did enough to win the game. We did enough not to get beaten at Sheffield United, that’s for sure, and at Barnsley.

“We got a bit of good fortune but I think we are due a wee bit of luck

“Willo’s worked hard, he got all over the park. I thought Chris Killen brought people in to play well and gave us a focal point.

“Willo gave it everything he’s got and Gary O’Neil was phenomenal. Jonno can’t do it all the time but he did some good things at times.”
