Five weeks ago tonight the Swans recorded their last league win and with two goalless draws behind us it was little wonder that Jackett had been in the transfer market for a new striker.

And the signing of Knight may have been out of the blue but it was certainly one that saw Huw Jenkins don his mask as surely its daylight robbery on Brighton based on this performance.

Three goals inside twenty seven minutes, hero status assured for the Knight at least (the puns could be endless) and even jokingly the question Lee who was being banded around the East Stand. This was a goalscorer just what Kenny ordered.

So where do you start? Well, the Swans lined up as

Now lets cast back to the signing of Tom Williams. Gillingham fans were unanimous in saying he was crap. The worst footballer ever was a description being used so it was with mild non-anticipation that I waited for his debut. Ten minutes later it was pretty obvious that Gillingham fans must either have high expectations or know sod all. Probably the latter rings true as Williams and Ricketts combined well on the left with some dangerous moves.

Knights opener was almost trundle-esque as he turned and struck a Bayo head back to find the corner of the net. Good finish, instinctive finish and not so much what we haven’t had but what we needed more of.

The second, clinical finishing from an inch perfect Bayo through ball saw composure and the ability to slot the ball under the goalkeeper. Great combination work between the forward two and as much credit to Bayo for the perfect ball as to Knight for the finish.

Twelve minutes, two goals and a star in the making. Much the same as Williams was not the bad player we were led to believe, Knight was a much better striker than Brighton fans gave him credit for. Give good players the right service and they perform. Lessons learned in Brighton and Gillingham.

It was surely only a matter of time and you know you have a good one when the smallest player on the pitch scores with a free header without leaving the floor. Anticipation and a Williams assist makes for 3-0. Game over, job done. League goals 49-51 inclusive.

The game was over and the Swans knew it as they ended the half in total control and the worst side in the league living up to their tag.

Second half was a differing issue, we sat back, Franchise came at us but to be honest the telling factor was done. McLeod from there is worth £2 million? I assume we will ring Brighton tomorrow and offer them a further couple of million for our steal?

Referee Mathieson bottled a sending off when Knight was fouled through on goal and then gave Franchise a penalty for what I couldn’t say. They missed it so he let them take it again. They scored it.

The job had been done by then there were bigger challenges ahead. But by then we may have Trundle and Knight up front together – I really wouldn’t fancy being a defender against those two. Not when you have Leon Britton and Tom Williams running at you from midfield. And Alan tate and Sam Ricketts from the back. And the world revolving around Senor Martinez. Promotion? Quite possible

And with Steve Watt watching on from the directors box he must have been hoping that his debut is half as good as that of Williams or Knight.
